In 2019, he participated in Mnet's Produce X 101 where he managed to reach the finale but did not make the final cut for the debut group. However, throughout the show, he showcased impressive dancing skills for which he was praised and gained many nicknames such as "human metronome" because of his capacity to always dance on beat.
The Produce trainees voted him as their One pick and chose him as a center for the final performance "To my world". Many of his fans, called Deerdans, recognized his cute charms and therefore dubbed him "Petit" (쁘띠).
After the show, he went on becoming the face of the brand DWMU, released a promotional song called 'Don't wake me up', and held several fan events.
In late 2019, he took part in W Project 4, a project aimed at introducing Woollim's trainees and showcasing their skills through the digital release of a song and a music video. On September 2, 2019, 1M1S (1분1초 '돌아와줘') was officially released.
